Louie Palu

Canada

Louie Palu is a Canadian documentary photographer and filmmaker whose work explores the human, political and environmental consequences of conflict and the transformations shaping the contemporary world. He is particularly interested in areas of tension, borders and vulnerable territories, developing a photographic practice that is direct, rigorous and deeply attentive to the people he encounters. His work questions how images can bear witness, inform, and shape our collective memory of events.

Early Distant Warning

Distant Early Warning explores a rapidly changing Arctic, where climate change, Cold War memory and new geopolitical tensions converge.
For InCadaqués, Louie Palu encases his photographs in blocks of ice that slowly melt, gradually revealing the images within.

As the ice disappears, the installation makes visible the fragility of the landscapes it depicts.
Between document and metaphor, Distant Early Warning becomes a quiet warning about a territory - and a world - already being transformed.
