Isabelle Levistre is a French photographer whose work explores memory, the natural world, and the materiality of photography. Trained in analogue photography and visual arts, she has developed an experimental practice since 2006, reinterpreting historical processes such as ferrotype, emulsion on glass, and orotone. Through traces, matter, and forms of apparition, she brings these techniques into a distinctly contemporary visual language.

Orotone & Ferrotype
Orotone and ferrotype give the image distinctive qualities of surface, light, and materiality. With ferrotype, the photograph is formed directly on a metal plate, while orotone combines an image on glass with a metallic gold layer that subtly alters its reflections and depth.
Isabelle Levistre reinterprets these historical processes through a contemporary approach, attentive to variations in light, texture, and the way the image shifts according to the viewer’s perspective and the space around it.
