Mario Ermoli

Mario Ermoli began his career photographing Italian actors from the world of theatre, developing an approach to portraiture shaped by curiosity, observation and a fascination with people. Since then, his practice has expanded across editorial, advertising and personal work, while remaining driven by a constant desire to experiment with photography.
Over the years, Ermoli has photographed some of the most influential figures in Italian architecture and design, including Ettore Sottsass, Vico Magistretti, Achille Castiglioni and Angelo Mangiarotti, alongside major figures of contemporary culture such as Wim Wenders, Jean Nouvel, Alessandro Mendini and Nathalie du Pasquier. From 2003 to 2018, he also taught portrait photography at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan.
Moving freely between portraiture and still life, commissioned work and personal research, Ermoli approaches photography as an open field of expression - one that resists categories and leaves room for curiosity, encounters and experimentation.

Ordinary Madness
The line between order and disorder is becoming increasingly thin, almost impossible to define. “Ordinary Madness” tells the story of everyday life through all its evident and tangible incongruities, making its boundaries ever more difficult to define. The use of Artificial Intelligence to express this concept - through photographs that depict moments that never existed - becomes a metaphor for the growing impossibility of recognizing an objective, untainted “reality.” Post-Photography is nothing more than the creation of images made from the stuff of dreams: a stream of memories, ideas, sensations, and emotions - a collective magma that resides in our minds and hearts.
