HOUSE OF LOVE

HOUSE OF LOVE

This is a personal series of images from 2009-2015 documenting the origination of the House of Love, which began when I lived with my best friend, in Hollywood CA and turned into a thriving international community of artists we fostered together.

The series explores the connection between people living under one roof in their formative years and is a representation of my photographic aesthetic in its developing phases, into what now is my defined visual identity.

My photography expresses the vibrancy of life and this series embodies a sense of youthful spirit as it was made in my early 20s. It is energetically charged, with spontaneity and intimacy. I value action, movement, and emotion in my artistic vision. I bring these elements forth by developing trust and respect for my subject. I also allow for the time it takes to fully immerse myself in my environment.
The images portray a raw, vibrant, and textured depth by way of vintage cameras and analog film, with surprising imperfections and silver linings. Similar to the feeling of youth, which isn’t always a crystal clear ride into adulthood. It’s an experimental experience of learning how to be one’s genuine self in the universe. This youthful energy of self-expansion accentuates visual creation and has been central in my photographic identity from the very beginning.
This series is an invitation into a wildly open-minded home that upheld a familial sense of safety. The images are playful and unexpected, drawing the viewer into moments captured in an authentic experience within a specific environment. These are pivotal themes of my skillset, documenting lifestyle and environmental portraiture.
The House of Love was a place, a vessel that held energy to serve as a part of a growing network, which continues to energetically function for the community’s expansion today, fulfilling desires, aspirations, and creations. The photos are documentation of the soulful energy that pulsated through the house.
