Metamorphose

Gabriel Dia

Senegal-France

Gabriel Dia was born in Rufisque, Senegal. To escape reprisals for his homosexuality, he arrived in France in 2008, where he has lived and worked ever since. Trained as an engineer, Gabriel developed an artistic language through writing, his first passion which led to his first novel, "La Naissance d'une Vierge" published by Éditions de Montigny in 2013.

His visual inspirations include the works of photographers such as Dominique Issermann and Peter Lindbergh, to name a few. But it was the discovery of Sara Moon's work that led him to dedicate himself to the art of photography. In his own words, through this art, he can "express many more things at the same time". In 2018, after training at the EFET, his first Parisian exhibition entitled "Nature" takes place, a universal work, described as inspired by his life, which echoes the eternal questions that everyone asks: Where do we come from? Who are we? Where are we going?

Metamorphose

Metamorphose is a series of self-portraits, made during the lockdown, through which I tried to fight against the clothing routine, a consequence of the confinement. As much by the clothing as by the use of technical processes which offer a second skin to the body in the image of the clothing. It seems to me that today fashion is not only a story of clothes but one of the strongest way of expressing one's personality, which lockdown has deprived us of.”
